A Libyan was yesterday charged with importing about 700 grammes of heroin and conspiring to deal in the drug.

Mohammed Ali Alrahi, 34, was also charged with the possession of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use on and before Monday.

Mr Alrahi was apprehended at the airport, on his arrival from Tunisia, when Customs officers scanned his luggage and allegedly found drugs hidden in a pair of shoes and a book.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro remanded Mr Alrahi in police custody.

Police Inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted.
