The Roads Department estimates that there were 450 roads in residential areas which need to be constructed.
Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett said in reply to parliamentary questions yesterday that this number of roads was "doable" over a period of three years but one had to consider the available funds and other priorities involving arterial and distributor roads and junctions. He said the work would cost some Lm10 million. Priority would be given to the streets which were already completely built up.
Asked by Joe Mizzi (MLP) whether the transport authority (ADT) was liable for damages suffered by drivers as a result of potholes in arterial roads maintained by the authority, the minister said the ADT was not automatically liable and had to be sued.
