Five Maltese charitable organisations have received cheques from the American Foundation for Maltese Charities in a ceremony held at the US Ambassador's residence in Attard.

The foundation has been raising funds in the US for 40 yeras to help Maltese citizens in need.

The cheques, for $7,000, were presented by Charge D'Affaires William Grant and Joseph Micallef, the foundation's vice-chairman who serves as Malta's Honorary Consul in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr Grant thanked the foundation for its generosity and Mr Micallef commended the recipient organisations for their efforts.
