Fund-raising for Mission Fund

Every year the Mission Fund aims to distribute at least Lm500 to each and every Maltese and Gozitan missionary in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Last year Lm67,000 were distributed in all.

Come next August, 28 lay Mission Fund missionaries, accompanied by a spiritual director, will be carrying our voluntary work in Peru. The project Peru 2005 - Qalb Wahda includes the building of an extension to the school run by Fr George Scerri in Aplao, together with the building of two small houses for homeless familiers.

A container full of donated tools, foodstuffs and medicines is already on its way. The lay missionaries pay their own travelling and subsistence expenses but public donations are needed for the project.

A fund-raising telethon, led by Robert Cefai, was held yesterday from the Catholic Institute In which leading singers and dancers volunteered to take part.
