Real Madrid striker Michael Owen has no regrets over moving to Spain, after watching his former club Liverpool beat Milan to win the Champions League on Wednesday.
"I am delighted that my friends won the Champions League, and I am equally as happy with the decision I took to leave Liverpool," Owen said yesterday.
The England striker watched his former team-mates fight back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Milan in Istanbul, and then triumph in a penalty shoot-out.
"From a neutral's point of view it was a great game. Three goals in six minutes is incredible. But after Liverpool scored their first goal they really believed they could come back."
The 25-year-old joined Real last summer in a 12-million-euro move, and has notched 12 league goals despite being used as a substitute for a large chunk of the season.
The move has not brought the silverware he hoped for, however, as Real crashed out of the Champions League to Juventus in the last 16 and finished runners-up to Barcelona in the Primera Liga.
"I have had my time at Liverpool and it was fantastic time as well. I won the UEFA Cup, European Supercup, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Charity Shield," Owen continued.
"Obviously the Champions League is a bigger prize than all of the others and I would love to win it with Real Madrid."
With Steven Gerrard's future at Liverpool still a source of speculation Owen added on his friend: "It is normal for big clubs to be interested in players like him, but I think it would be strange if he left."
