Malta's top Double Trap shooter William Chetcuti was 13th in the ISSF World Championships which were held in Lonato, Italy, this week.

Chetcuti hit 135 points overall after scores of 44, 47 and 44. He was two clays short of a place in the barrage final.

The sixth position was contested by three shooters. Italy's Daniele Di Spigno won the shoot-off on the 12th clay with China's Bo Li and Marco Innocenti, also of Italy.

The World Championship title was won by Athens Olympics gold medallist Ahmed Al Maktoum, of the United Arab Emirates. He finished with an overall score of 189 clays after qualifying on 143.

Had Chetcuti taken part in the competition for juniors in Lonato, his 135 score would have been enough for him to finish first.

Today, he travels to Andorra, along with coach Jimmy Bugeja, for next week's Games of the Small States of Europe.

Meanwhile, Nicky Carabott, Zaren Attard and Eugenio Borg are currently in Italy for an international Trap shoot spread over the weekend.
