The Malta Basketball Association yesterday issued an official list of players in the women's national squad to play in Andorra GSSE next week.

A surprise omission was Joselle Cardona who spent most of the season crossing the channel between Malta and Sicily to train with Italian club Virtus Siracusa and play for Rabat Depiro.

Frank Camilleri, the MBA general secretary, yesterday told The Times that coaches Santino Coppa and Carlo Farrugia decided to drop Cardona as a disciplinary measure.

He did not specify why the coaches had reached such a drastic decision a few days ahead of the Games.

Camilleri also said that Hibs playmaker Beverley Zammit has replaced Cardona in the squad of 12 players.

He added that Cyprus, 2003 finalists, will not play in Andorra as they pulled out last week.

Malta will be defending their gold medal at the Andorra la Vella Sports Complex. They play against Luxembourg next Tuesday, Iceland the day after and hosts Andorra today week.
