The Santander Group, a European universities' network aimed at establishing special academic, cultural and socio-economic ties among its members, recently held its general assembly in Malta with the theme Europe And Beyond: Mobility, Research And Partnerships In Higher Education.
The assembly was opened by Prof. Roger Ellul-Micallef, rector of the University of Malta, Prof. Stefan Jurga, President of the Santander Group and Joseph Mifsud, director of the university's European Unit.
Speakers included Nicholas Newman, adviser, co-ordination of international aspects of mobility, DG Research, International Fellowships; Joseph Cassar, Ambassador of Malta to Libya; Prof. Michael Woolf, president, Foundation of Education Abroad and Ettore Deodato, DG Education and Culture.
One of the Santander Group's primary current projects is the Alban Programme which covers high-level scholarships in the EU offered to Latin American students who wish to continue their studies at European universities. The group also participates in many other European and international projects.
