The ninth edition of the Bir Miftuh international music festival, organised annually by Din l-Art Helwa, continues with its third recital at the mediaeval chapel dedicated to Santa Marija ta' Bir Miftuh on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The French ensemble Xeremia will present a concert of mediaeval music.
Xeremia, who performed in Malta four years ago, is composed of Robert Ressicaud, director, and Philippe Curt and Benoit Pierron playing a large variety of mediaeval instruments.
They include the hurdy-gurdy, harp, lute, fiddle, recorder, galoubet, psaltery, bag-pipe, crumhorn, xeremia or shawm, guiterne, oboe of Poitou and drums. The ensemble will entertain the audience with works by famous troubadours like Alphonse X de Castille, Thibault de Navarre and Martin Codax, compositions from 13th and 14th century manuscripts from Montpellier and Monserrat and also works by the composer of the Middle Ages Guillaume de Machaut.
This concert has been made possible by the French Embassy and the Alliance Française, especially with the support of French Ambassador Patrick Chrismant and the director of the alliance Anne Louise Debeusscher.
Tickets at Lm7.50 per person may be obtained from Din l-Art Helwa's office (tel. 2122 0358 or 2122 5952) till Friday between 9 a.m. and noon.
All funds raised are devoted to Din l-Art Helwa restoration projects.
