Legalise abortion

Although I am thoroughly against abortion for whatever reason whether it be the result of unprotected sex, rape and anything in between, as a Christian I believe one should be responsible and courageous enough to humbly accept everything sent by God even if in mysterious ways, surely never to be considered a burden. Paradoxically, I also think that abortion should be legalised in Malta.
My main reason is to avoid the hypocritical situation where a woman has to go abroad to have the abortion. Due to a lack of finances, others might try aborting in a dangerous and obscure way or to throw away the baby in a convenient pace like a rubbish bin.
This may sound incredible for some but I assure you these things happen. It is also worthwhile to take into consideration and respect people who are atheist or agnostic or simply hold different beliefs and views even if just for the sake of tolerance and plurality of thinking.
I would like to add that abortion should be introduced and be accompanied by other indispensable measures by which the government and maybe NGOs will have a system that will help and does everything possible to convince a person not to go through with abortion. To take custody of the child if necessary, to cover the young mother or parents socially, to protect them against family threats, to encourage adoption, to educate and much more.
Having said that, I consider that entrenching the anti-abortion law in the Constitution is a disproportioned infringement of individual freedom rights, very hypocritical even for Maltese society and totally unnecessary for the simple reason that as Maltese Christians the Catholic doctrine should be enough to dissuade us. With a little reasoning and the right support we can help the desperate and change their confused intentions.
Of course we can always claim that only we possess the truth and therefore invent the right to impose it on others like the Taliban did in Afghanistan.
