Call for children to sit on council

A course in children's rights for children will be held soon, leading to the election of their representatives on the Council for Children.

The council is formed of a group of experts who advise the Commissioner for Children on the rights of children.

The course, organised by the commissioner's office, is the first of its kind to be held in Malta. It will consist of discussions and activities spread over a weekend "live-in" between July 1 and 3.

At the end of the course the participants will elect three members to represent children and young people on the council for one year.

The commissioner is inviting all NGOs, local councils and schools to nominate up to two children/young people who could be chosen to participate in the course and in the election.

Applicants have to be between 13 and 16 years of age.

All those interested can ask for an application from the school or the group that they attend and send it to Sonia Camilleri, Commissioner for Children, Palazzo Ferreria, Republic Street, Valletta.

The deadline is noon on Friday.
