On March 22 I wrote to the Association of Local Councils making a proposal to organise an activity to mark the tenth anniversary of the College of Mayors, which falls this year.
When local councils were set up in Malta the Valletta council came up with the idea of organising a meeting for all mayors with the aim of establishing a college of mayors.
But that same year the Association of Local Councils was set up, so the mayors decided that a commission be formed by the association's executive, together with some mayors to draft a statute for this college.
Many meetings were held until in 1995 the college was formed.
So far I have not received any reply from the association although when I called the secretary a fortnight ago he told me that my letter will be discussed at the executives' meeting the following week.
Various former mayors I spoke to are in favour of a gathering for all ex-mayors of the first local councils.
