Some years back, Bank of Valletta, along with San Lawrenz holiday resort in Gozo, embarked on a strong marketing campaign, inviting credit card holders to a complimentary night at the resort with the one condition that they attend a timeshare marketing session during their stay there. This exercise had positive results in that several families took up the special offers and signed timeshare contracts.

Subsequently, to our disdain, we found that once we became a captive market, certain promises made by the timeshare agents were not kept and there have been several complaints from timeshare holders, several of whom also gave up their contract.

One such complaint covers maintenance fees - these have been raised considerably and, despite the fact that the constitution covering our contractual obligations clearly states that there should be an annual AGM held, these have never materialised.

Following several exchanges and a withholding of funds due, the company has now agreed that there will be a session called for this year.

Through this letter I would advise other timeshare holders to communicate with the company expressing their feeling that the AGM should be held as soon as possible, preferably before summer.

I also feel that timeshare holders should get together before this meeting in order to set up a common stand on this and other issues.
