Four people were injured in a traffic accident at the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast road at about 2 p.m. yesterday.

The police said the accident occurred when a Renault Megane, driven by a 29-year-old woman from St Paul's Bay, lost control while going in the direction of Qawra. The vehicle crossed over to the other lane and crashed into an electricity pole.

A Renault 19, driven by an 80-year-old man from Balzan in the direction of St Andrew's, then crashed into the rear of the Megane. Both drivers, and a 29-year-old Zimbabwean passenger in the Megane and an 80-year-old Canadian passenger who was in the Renault 19, were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Personnel from the Civil Protection Department were called to the spot to help remove the injured from the cars.
