Birkirkara Red Lion on top in Mixed League

Pawla Wolves Schtag keep the pace with the leaders after 4-0 win

After the recent successful organisation of the Malta National Championships, the activities of the local Badminton Association resumed with matches from the H2Only Mixed League - Division Two.

The second and final round of the competition has just started with Birkirkara Red Lion still unbeaten at the top of the standings with four wins and a draw.

Birkirkara's only draw was obtained against direct contenders and second-placed Pawla Wolves Schtag, who trail them by four points but still have a game in hand.

In their latest outing, the Lions repeated their first round result against Shuttles BC, defeating them 3-1.

Martin Farrugia, Daniel Abdilla and Rachel Attard brought home the points for the Lions with Chris Spiteri and Joanne Vella winning the Shuttles' only point in the doubles.

Pawla Wolves Schtag maintained the pace with the leaders. They have equally preserved an unbeaten record, with three wins and a draw from four matches.

In their latest match in the league, the Wolves similarly obtained the double over Birkirkara Power Fruit with a clear 4-0 scoreline.

Frans Vella, Edmond Abela and Oliver Mallia were the players behind this important result for the Paolites, which enabled them to remain within striking distance of the Lions.

Standings: Birkirkara Red Lion 18 points; Pawla Wolves Schtag 14; Shuttles BC 8; Birkirkara Jazz, Birkirkara Power Fruit 4.

The Mixed League resumes on Sunday with four matches, two from each division. These fixtures had been initially scheduled to be played on the morrow of the death of Pope John Paul II and were therefore postponed.

In Division One, Birkirkara 1565 will face Birkirkara John Bull while Pawla Wolves Schtag take on Birkirkara Lowenbrau.

In Division Two, Power Fruit will play against Birkirkara Jazz while Shuttles BC will cross swords with Pawla Wolves Schtag.
