Facts and figures ahead of tomorrow's UEFA Cup final between Sporting of Portugal and CSKA Moscow of Russia in Lisbon:

¤ Wednesday's final will be the 47th since the competition began as the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1955. That first competition took three years to complete and was won by Barcelona who beat a combined London side 8-2 on aggregate in 1958.

¤ Sporting's only European trophy was the 1963-1964 Cup Winners' Cup, when they beat Hungary's MTK Budapest.

¤ Sporting have played 14 games to reach the final, winning nine, drawing two and losing three.

Brazilian striker Liedson has hit nine goals, second only to Newcastle United's Alan Shearer who scored 11 in the Premier League's side's run to the quarter-finals.

¤ A Sporting victory would make them the fifth team in European club competition history to win a final on home soil.

Feyenoord (2002 UEFA Cup), Real Madrid (1957 European Cup), Inter (1965 European Cup) and Barcelona (1982 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup) have succeeded before.

¤ Sporting, founded in 1906, have won the Portuguese league title 18 times, most recently in 2002.

¤ Sporting's Alvalade stadium, built next to the old ground and with a capacity of 52,000, hosted four group games and the semi-final between Portugal and the Netherlands in Euro 2004.

¤ CSKA Moscow are only the second Russian team and the first in three decades to reach a European final.

Dynamo Moscow were the only other Russian side to reach a final, losing 3-2 to Scotland's Rangers in the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup in 1972.

¤ CSKA have already faced Portugal's two other 'big' teams in European competition this season - with a 0-0 away draw and 1-0 home defeat to Porto in the group stage of the Champions League, then a 2-0 home win and 1-1 away draw with Benfica in the third round of the UEFA Cup.

¤ In reaching the final after parachuting in from the Champions League, CSKA have played eight games, winning four, drawing three and losing once.

Brazilians Vagner Love and Daniel Carvalho have hit three goals apiece.

¤ The final will be their 19th European game this term, equalling the most ever played in a season.

Valery Gazzayev's team started their campaign in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
