The Department of Environmental Science within the University Junior College has embarked on a long-term afforestation project over the past few months by embellishing the college grounds with native trees and endemic plants.

A team of students together with an Environmental Science lecturer has been responsible for planting around 20 trees and a few endemic shrubs. The aim of the project is to increase the awareness among students about the native plants and trees by bringing a bit of our countryside within the college grounds. Two composting tanks have also been set up to compost the weeds removed from the surroundings.

The team would like to thank Nature Trust for supplying most of the oak and carob trees, the national Agricultural Research and Development Centre at Ghammieri for supplying the endemic shrubs.
