I have been a subscriber to an ADSL provider to an unlimited account for some time now for a payment of Lm20 monthly.

On April 11, just two days after I had renewed my subscription, the connection became unusable. Naturally, I phoned the help desk officer complaining about the matter. His reply was unbelievable. He told me they stopped my connection because I downloaded a substantial amount from the web.

I promptly answered that my payment is for an unlimited account. He again reiterated that I downloaded too much and they had set up restrictions to disable my connection both for browsing and for e-mail.

When I complained why I was not notified of this before I renewed my subscription, he insisted it is the ISP which should have notified me about the changes. To add insult to injury they refused to inform me how "limited" is their "unlimited" and they neither want to provide facilities for users to know how much they have used up.

I paid Lm20 monthly for an unlimited account which according to my dictionary means boundless, infinite. It seems that for the ADSL provider the word unlimited means the opposite. If they want to put restrictions they should do away with this so-called unlimited account so that one would opt for a lower payment account. But to make us pay for an unlimited account and then offer a limited one is just cheating. It is daylight robbery.

I strongly protest about this shabby treatment and I appeal to the consumer protection department to take up the matter with this ADSL provider to ensure that the subscribers are treated fairly.
