An Enemalta employee and a police constable were yesterday given suspended jail terms after they admitted to the misappropriation of over Lm1,000 worth of fuel from the fuel station at the police garage in Floriana.

Philip Borg, 40, of Zebbug was given an 18-month jail term suspended for three years and PC Richard Vella, 32, of Mellieha was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years and was perpetually interdicted.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how the two men pleaded guilty to the misappropriation of fuel, forging documents, making malicious use of forged documents and committing crimes they were in duty bound to prevent on and before April 30.

She heard how the two men tampered with documents by, for example, declaring that less fuel was delivered to the station.

Magistrate Scerri Herrera ordered the men to pay any money owed to the police force within six months.

Dr Jason Azzopardi appeared for Mr Borg and Dr Anglu Farrugia appeared for Mr Vella.
