A man and a woman were yesterday charged with stealing a car and the registration plates of another two vehicles.

Amadeo Grima, 25, and Claire Cassar, 31, of Kalkara pleaded not guilty to stealing a Maruti 800 on April 11, stealing the registration plates of a Volvo between April 23 and 26 and stealing the plates and car stereo from another Maruti on April 29.

They also pleaded not guilty to driving the car without an insurance cover and making malicious use of forged documents.

Mr Grima alone pleaded not guilty to relapsing and committing a crime during the operative time of a suspended jail term.

Both accused were remanded in custody.

Magistrate Joseph Cassar presided over the case.

Police Inspector Joseph Mercieca prosecuted.

Dr Martin Fenech appeared for the accused.
