A motorist, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, has been given a six-month jail term suspended for two years for seriously injuring a man in a head-on collision.
Magistrate Giovanni Grixti found Giovanni Grech guilty of seriously injuring Eucharist Mizzi and slightly injuring Raymond Xerri and Patrick Sciberras in Ghajnsielem on March 22, 1999.
Mr Grech was also found guilty of driving dangerously, breaching a one-way sign, crossing a continuous white line and causing damage to the car he crashed into.
Magistrate Grixti heard how Mr Grech was driving from Ghajnsielem to Mgarr with Mr Sciberras as his passenger. Mr Grech changed carriageway, where traffic flowed in the opposite direction, and collided with a car driven by Mr Xerri.
Magistrate Grixti banned Mr Grech from driving for a year.
