A woman's love for animals backfired when she stopped her new car by the side of the road to tend to an abandoned puppy - only to have her new car stolen seconds later.

The woman was driving through Rabat on her way to Mosta on Wednesday and had arrived near the Millennium Stadium when she saw a puppy by the side of the road and pulled up to see to it.

However, when she got out of her one-week-old Honda HRV, another car with a man and woman inside stopped close by.

The man got out of the car and pushed the unsuspecting woman to the ground, got into her car and drove off while his partner drove after him.

The woman was left crying out for help on the ground. Apart from the car being stolen, so where her personal belongings in the car which included her bag with credit cards and house keys.

The Rabat police and the criminal investigation department are investigating.

The Honda HRV was vivid metallic blue in colour with registration number BEE 100.

Anyone with information is asked to inform the nearest police station.
