A Libyan man was yesterday charged with importing about 650 grammes of cannabis resin into Malta by allegedly hiding the drugs in a video compact disc player.

Salaheddin Ali Elmabrouk, 23, pleaded not guilty to importing the cannabis and conspiring to deal in the drug on and before Monday.

He was remanded in police custody.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi presided over the arraignment.

Police Inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted.
