I refer to correspondence from Mary Fisher concerning the historic city of Mdina. In her contribution, Ms Fisher referred to the role of the Mdina Rehabilitation Committee with reference to the issue of retail outlets within the city.
I would like to inform Ms Fisher that, in addition to several achievements which included the systemisation of the approach road and parking spaces in the Greek's Gate area, the cleaning of the landfront fortifications, the restoration of the Vilhena Palace forecourt, the removal of all overhead wires which will now be concealed beneath road level, the paving of all the streets and squares of the town due to be completed in the early summer and the finalisation of all the necessary research work for the upgrading of Howard Garden and the restoration of the magisterial and municipal Baroque palaces, the Mdina Rehabilitation Committee has also commissioned the drawing up of a master plan for the conservation and future heritage management of the city. This key document, which will address and propose solutions to several issues concerning Mdina, including the one mentioned by Ms Fisher, is due to be finalised in the near future.
In the perspective, I leave it to Ms Fisher to answer her own question: Where are they and what are they doing about it? But I would have very much preferred it had she got the facts right before posing such unacceptable questions which tend to throw a bad light on the hard-working Mdina Rehabilitation Committee within the Ministry of Resources and Infrastructure.
