Serendipity, a Young Enterprise company consisting of 12 students from De La Salle College, are doing their bit for the environment by sponsoring the planting of trees from the proceeds of their sales.

The YE company, taking part in this year's HSBC Company Programme, took the initiative in view of the fact that its product, antiquity boxes, is made of wood.

Each sale contributes towards the fund and customers will be given a certificate of planting.

For this initiative the company teamed up with Nature Trust Malta and the first tree was planted recently at the Wied Ghollieqa Nature Reserve.

Nature Trust (Malta) president Vincent Attard welcomed the company's initiative, adding that such campaigns also created public awareness of the need to conserve and protect the environment.

The planting of trees, he said, improves not only the natural heritage but also the quality of life through a healthy environment.

Serendipity's product is a wooden box which is individually hand-made according to customers' requirements. The unique ageing, cracking process makes each box look old. The most popular variation of the product includes, on the outside, photos of the purchaser, his family or friends.
