A first-half goal scored by Andy Portelli saw Zejtun Corinthians winning the points in a hard-fought match against Zurrieq.

Zejtun now face Kirkop in a crunch match involving two teams looking to secure a place in the play-offs.

Zejtun went close after four minutes through Jean Paul Abela. Then they were twice denied by Jason Galea off attempts by Andy Portelli and Mario Farrugia.

In the 14th minute Zurrieq keeper Ludvic Fardell kept out a Philip Farrugia shot. Zejtun wasted an easy chance through Portelli who made no mistake on 33 minutes when finishing off a choral moving between Marco Gerada and Kevin Mifsud.

In the 54th minute Mifsud went close for Zejtun and soon after the Zurrieq keeper effected a fine save to deny Abela.

Referee: Paul Apap.

Mgarr United 2
Luqa St Andrews 2

This was a pleasant match with Mgarr's young team having another encouraging performance and deservedly obtaining the point they needed to retain their place in the Third Division next season.

Kalkara and Ta' Xbiex will have to re-apply, having finished in the bottom two places.

Neil Busuttil scored for Mgarr after four minutes but Charlo Debattista equalised on 33 minutes when he headed home a Jesmond Azzopardi cross.

Luqa went in for the break leading 2-1 when an excellent Clive Psaila volley had the better of the Mgarr keeper just before the half-time whistle.

But Mgarr were not to be denied and early on after the restart Matthew Gauci restored parity with a well-taken goal.

Referee: Duncan Sultana.

Ta' Xbiex 1
Xghajra Tornadoes 5

This has been another miserable season for Ta' Xbiex as they are still languishing at the bottom place of the standings with no wins to show after 15 matches. They conceded 46 goals so far.

Xghajra should also not be proud of their campaign.

This was only their fourth win in the championship. Certainly, gone are the days when this club used to rub shoulders with the elite in local football.

Lawrence Mallia put Xghajra ahead after eight minutes but five minutes after the restart James Herrera made it one-all against the run of play.

Damien D'Amato put Xghajra back in the driving seat right on the hour. Ta' Xbiex were lost and fell to a heavy defeat. Charles Agius committed an own goal before Josef Zammit and Jackson Bird hit again for the Greens for a handsome 5-1 win.

Referee: Sammy Attard.

Sirens 3
Siggiewi 3

This was an open match with Sirens scoring their equaliser very late in the match as Siggiewi looked heading for their sixth victory of the season.

With these two teams not involved in the promotion run-in and well away from the bottom positions, the match was open with some good attacking play from both sides.

Marlon Vella put Siggiewi ahead after 26 minutes. Ryan Theuma drew the teams level with a powerful drive a few minutes after the break.

Stefan Azzopardi put Sirens ahead on 67 minutes but Siggiewi scored twice in quick succession, through Pierre Spiteri and Joe Falzon, to take a 3-2 lead.

Sirens threw caution to the wind and deservedly scored an equaliser in the 90th minute when Maurice Busuttil beat Vassallo from a free-kick.

Referee: Fyodor Zammit.
