The feast this weekend of St. Publius, first Bishop of Malta and patron saint of Floriana, traditionally opens the festa season in Malta.

The parish of Floriana will be offering a free conducted tour of St Publius church today at 11 a.m.

The tour is intended for English speaking persons either on holiday or residents in Malta.

The church is renowned for the many paintings by the late Maltese painter Envyn Cremona and by Paul Camilleri Cauchi.

Various works of art including priceless embroidered red velvet sacred vestments and altar cloths, silverware, the canopy over the main altar and the statue of the patron St Publius are being exhibited on the occasion of the feast.

The wooden statue of St Publius was carved by Vincenzo Dimech in 1811.
