The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses yesterday gave the government a week's grace before resorting to industrial action if the government fails to meet the union about the sectoral collective agreement and an early retirement scheme.

Speaking to union members during an extraordinary general conference, union president Rudolph Cini said that unless the government comes round to discussing the sectoral agreement, the union will pull out of the public health reform discussions.

Mr Cini claimed the MUMN was being ignored by the government about the employment of nurses and midwives.

He said the union had not received a reply to a letter it sent the Office of the Prime Minister on February 7.
