A bus driver was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for three years for tampering with a bus-ticketing machine and defrauding the authorities of over Lm500.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli heard Joseph Urry, 37, of Senglea plead guilty to committing the crime between August and September 2003 in Valletta.

The magistrate noted that Mr Urry had cooperated with police and would pay back the money defrauded.

Police Inspector Kevin Borg prosecuted.
