Alex Borg is the 2004/05 snooker champion after a 7-4 win over Simon Zammit in the final, played on Friday night in front of a sizeable crowd at the Peace Band Club in Naxxar.
Borg, who plays for Melita Band Club, was 4-2 and 5-4 in front in a tense contest which produced very few high breaks. The tournament was sponsored by Cisk Lager.
This was the fifth national snooker title for the 35-year-old Mellieha-born cueist and his third in succession.
Last month, he won the Mediterranean Cup at the Dolmen Hotel and then helped the national snooker team to win the European Teams Championship.
Thanks to his national title, Borg retained the no. 1 spot in the MBSA ranking. Zammit, of Jesmond Sports Club, is the second player in the list. Both top seeds will represent Malta in the European Championship to be played in Poland next June.
