AD against new Paceville bars

Alternattiva Demokratika (AD) expressed its support for Paceville residents, who are opposing the opening of two bars in their street yesterday .

AD chairman Harry Vassallo told a press conference, held in Dobbie Street, that the street was one of the last residential areas in Paceville, and "was free from any inconvenience".

The bars would be opened subject to approval by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and residents fear that if permission is granted the new bars will create more inconvenience due to noise and loud music.

"The residents' quality of life should be defended and AD urges the St Julian's council to put the residents' rights before business interests," Dr Vassallo said.

While acknowledging Paceville's importance as an entertainment centre, development should not be imposed on residents, he said.

"Residents who lived in Paceville long before this place became Malta's leading place of entertainment have to bear noise pollution and all sorts of daily inconveniences," Dr Vassallo said.
