I am a teacher of the Maltese language at the Victoria School of Modern Languages and also a director/presenter of a Maltese programme on the community radio station 979FM in Melbourne, Australia.
In March I took the opportunity to ask a friend of mine, Miriam Cassar of Zejtun, to assist me by doing some recordings and interviews with people who organise activities related to Easter in Malta. This was done (on a voluntary basis) for the whole four weeks of Lent. Ms Cassar involved herself with great interest and dedication, coming up with some of the most outstanding interviews, befitting the most important month of the Christian calendar.
I got a great response from the Maltese community in Melbourne and Sydney, both about her professionalism and on the manner in which she conducted her interviews, which were of great benefit to my listeners. Many of my listeners emigrated from Malta and Gozo over 50 years ago.
Ms Cassar took us to places like Ir-Razzett tal-Markiz in Mosta, Cospicua, Marsa, Paola and Zejtun. However, the highlight was the detailed information about Ghaxaq's pageant on Palm Sunday, which was through a direct phone link. Ms Cassar kept listeners glued to their seats for a whole hour. She touched the hearts and minds of the listeners with her depiction and narration and for this I sincerely thank and compliment her on her incredible talent and patriotism.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped Ms Cassar by giving detailed interviews and information. I for one was glad that she was able to serve the Maltese community of Melbourne and Sydney via Sydney One Radio in this way and may I formally thank her for her assistance and for enhancing my programme on 979FM Melbourne during the four weeks of Lent.
