The Appogg Agency and the Ejjew Ghandi Commission have signed a protocol standardising procedures for the admission of children to residential homes.

Both organisations recognised the need to continue to consolidate the good working relationship in the best interest of children, they said in a statement.

An admission pack was put together, standardising all forms - in particular the case review and care plan forms - in a bid to safeguard the children's right to quality care and support. Also incorporated in the pack are guidelines for social workers who admit children into care and an information leaflet for parents and residents.

Appogg and the residential care homes have for years been working in close collaboration with the aim of maximising work resources but, more importantly, networking to avoid further trauma to children in residential care by providing an efficient and effective service and especially ongoing professional support tailored to each child's individual needs.

Joe Gerada, chief executive officer of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, said the protocol between Appogg and Ejjew Ghandi is another step towards harmonising service procedures in favour of children. He praised the collaboration that existed and pointed out that Appogg was also providing care workers to assist children in residential care run by the Church. He said the agreement has taken the service to children one step further.
