The police this year up to March 7 initiated legal proceedings against 24 people for allegedly violating smoking regulations in places of entertainment, Justice and Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said in Parliament yesterday.

He said 18 were found to be smoking and six were responsible for the premises involved. The establishments were in Birzebbuga, Valletta, Balzan and St Julians.

The minister told Carmelo Abela (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question that the police would continue to make inspections so as to curb abuse.
