Seven Premier players get one-match ban

Last weekend's Premier League matches brought a spate of suspensions as no fewer than seven players were handed a one-match ban by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner yesterday.

Marsaxlokk and Floriana, the bottom-placed teams in the Championship Pool, were the worst hit as they had two players in the suspensions list.

Julian Briffa was disciplined after seeing red in his side's 1-0 defeat to Sliema Wanderers while defensive team-mate Ian Azzopardi was banned after he collected four yellow cards. They will miss Sunday's clash with Birkirkara who will be without William Camenzuli, also suspended one match yesterday.

Marsaxlokk had Malcolm Licari and Cleaven Frendo banned after both collected their fourth yellow card in the 1-0 upset to Valletta. They will be ineligible for Marsaxlokk's match against the Wanderers on Saturday.

Sliema will have to cope without midfielder Stefan Giglio also among the seven players banned for one match.

The yellow card meted out to Hibs' striker Andrew Cohen in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Birkirkara was his fourth and will rule him out of the match against Valletta this weekend.
