The Libyan Maltese Chamber of Commerce is planning to move to new offices in the vicinity of the Libyan Embassy, in Attard in the near future.
A spokesman for the chamber said the move is aimed at expanding its activities and introducing new services to its members.
The chamber said it wanted to clarify comments made in an interview given by chamber vice-president Anthony Micallef which appeared in The Times. The interview, the chamber said, may have led to a misunderstanding of the chamber's message.
Mr Micallef's message on that occasion was to advise members of the chamber and businessmen trading with Libya that unless they performed their duties and conducted their business in Libya with the utmost professionalism and legal procedures, they would lose their commercial competitive edge due to the harsh competition that was now in progress in this open market.
The chamber said Mr Micallef's message was also designed to encourage cooperation between Libyan and Maltese companies to form partnerships in the setting up of joint ventures, possibly also with Maltese companies.
The chamber said Libya has a lot to offer and had a lot of potential for growth. The message was aimed at businessmen intending to invest in Libya to fully appreciate this positive situation.
"Unfortunately, the media and certain individuals have given the article appearing in The Times a wrong interpretation when comments had only been aimed at building stronger business opportunities between the two countries," the chamber said.
