The Education Ministry has set up a working group on basic adult skills with the aim of drawing up a national strategic plan on the development of such skills.

The first activity of the group was a consultation seminar at the Attard government school designed to enable the respective parties to make their proposals for the plan.

Education Minister Louis Galea said it was the government's policy that the strategy for basic adult skills was particularly addressed at adults who did not attend secondary education and those who left school without obtaining the basic education level.

The working group is headed by Anthony Degiovanni, director at the Education Division, and includes Peter Mayo, from the University of Malta, Maurice Moffett, from the Employment and Training Corporation, Sandro Spiteri, from the Foundation for Educational Services, and David Muscat, from the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.
