A single stamp, with a face value of 51c, is being issued by the Philatelic Bureau of Maltapost in >commemoration of the death of Pope John Paul II.

The stamp will be issued on Friday and will be on sale from all Maltapost branches in Malta and Gozo and from the Maltapost mobile unit.

The stamp, measuring 31mm (base) x 44mm and with a perforation of 13.9 x 14, has been designed in-house and offset printed by Printex Ltd. The image, showing the late Pope in papal regalia, is from a photograph taken on the Floriana Granaries during his first visit to Malta in 1990. The picture was made available to Maltapost by Media Centre.

This stamp is being made available in First Day Cover format. It can also be purchased in sheets of 10.
