Cuschieri secures top spot after beating Attard in final
Fourth junior title for Falzon
The national singles championships came to a close last week with the two finals from the Open and Juniors categories played at Pandora Hall, Zejtun.
In the Open category, Antoine Cuschieri left his mark after beating club team-mate Clayton Attard in the final. Cuschieri looked more concentrated to outclass Attard with a convincing 8-2 score.
Following his success, Cuschieri jumped into the top spot of the national rankings.
This was the fourth and final ranking tournament of the season and the victory and no.1 spot earned Cuschieri a berth in the Malta team for the World Championships, in Blackpool, next June.
The first eight players in the ranking list who will be representing Malta in the championships are: Antoine Cuschieri 860 points, Clayton Attard 850, Ray Demanuele 750, Duncan Bezzina 610, Ivan Rizzo 580, Mario Brincat 545, Kevin Mercieca 530 and Mario Vassallo 520.
In the juniors, Miguel Falzon registered a record after winning his fourth consecutive ranking tournament of the season.
In the final, Falzon had the better of Jurgen Attard 6-2. Falzon's skills and performance were at top notch this season. His future in the pool scene indeed looks very bright.
The first six players in the junior ranking list, who will be representing Malta in the World Championships in Blackpool, are Miguel Falzon 1,200, Jurgen Attard 695, Shawn Agius 650, Wayne Farrugia 570, Malcolm Azzopardi 500 and Clint Chircop 500.
