Podlewski, Kadur win singles titles

The ITF U-18 World Ranking Tournament came to a close yesterday when the finals of the singles and doubles competitions were played at the Marsa Sports Club.

Oscar Podlewski of Great Britain won the boys' singles title after beating Arsenije Zlatanovic of Serbia 6-3 1-6 6-4. This was a very close encounter which saw both players sharing the opening two sets. In the decider Podlewski came back from a break down to move 4-2 ahead.

Zlatanovic forced his way back, breaking back his opponent to level the match at four all. But the Serbian player was again broken by Podlewski who then held on his serve to seal his victory.

The girls' singles title was won by Madelein Kadur of Germany who beat top seed Naomi Cavaday of Great Britain in straight sets. Kadur was the better player in the opening set which she won 6-2.

The German player kept the upperhand in the second set building a 4-1 lead. Cavaday managed to bridge the gap to 5-4 but Kadur held on to win the next game and claim the title.

Sanders of Belgium and Ger-many's Garhoffner won the boys' doubles title after they had the better of Russia's Kuznetsov and Milner of Israel 5-7 6-2 6-2. The girls' title went to Hofmanova (Austria) and Linhova (Czech Republic). They defeated Russian pair Makarycheva and Pachova 5-7 6-3 6-3.
