International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge said yesterday the battle between the five cities bidding to host the 2012 Games was probably the closest in history.

The IOC will decide between Paris, London, Madrid, New York and Moscow in Singapore on July 6.

"I think it's very early to say who's in front, who's behind," Rogge told reporters. "This is a very close race, five of the greatest cities in the world bidding for the Olympic Games this time. The toughest race probably in history."

Rogge is in the northern Australian city of Brisbane for a meeting of Oceania Olympic officials. The five candidates will present submissions to Oceania delegates tomorrow.
