Nature Trust, the environmental NGO, has welcomed the fact that the first draft of the Bill on NGOs has been approved by the Cabinet and will be available for public consultation in the coming weeks.

The NGO commended the good work done by the Non-Governmental Organisation Legislation Working Group in pressing for what it called this milestone event.

Nature Trust said it expects the legislation to benefit not-for-profit organisations, which are performing valuable work under no legal protection and have lost opportunities for EU funding because of the lack of legal status.

Nature Trust also welcomed the initiatives taken by private companies to convert their neon tube lighting systems to a more environmentally friendly and energy saving technology and commended the government for carrying out an energy audit of its offices with the intention of doing the same.
