This was another pronounced victory for Ghajnsielem to consolidate their lead at the top of the standings. It is clear that coach Eddie Vella has found the perfect combination for his team who scored no fewer than 21 goals in their last three matches.

The Blacks were 3-0 ahead after 22 minutes with goals from Daniel Bogdanovic, Edoardo Do Nascimento and Richard Buhagiar.

In the 32nd minute, the Blues reduced the arrears when Olalekan was tripped in the box and Carlos Bezerra converted from the spot.

But Ghajnsielem soon imposed their superiority and by half-time the score was 5-1. Kalenga hit home from a free-kick and a minute before the interval Bogdanovic found the Xaghra net from a penalty.

The match lost much of its interest after the break, as Ghajnsielem reduced their pace. However, Vella's players continued the massacre with five other goals for the biggest winning margin of the season.

Kalenga hit a second-half hat-trick to complement other goals from Do Nascimento and Frank Galea.

Victoria Hotspurs 1
Xewkija Tigers 4

Xewkija remained in touch with leaders Ghajnsielem with a convincing victory over bottom-placed Victoria Hotspurs.

Xewkija made the least possible effort in this match and it seems that they are already eyeing the direct clash against Ghajnsielem on May 1.

Xewkija opened the score in the 19th minute with a Thierry Tazameta goal and doubled their tally in the 23rd minute through Mahjoub Touali.

In the 31st minute the referee awarded Xewkija a penalty for a foul on Nwoko. Tazameta beat Ernest Barry from the spot.

Victoria pulled one back five minutes later with a goal by Sunday Eboh following a free-kick by Edmond Lufi. But Xewkija scored again in the 51st minute with an angled drive by Jason Portelli.

Zebbug Rovers 1
Kercem Ajax 4

Kercem took a decisive step to avoid the relegation play-off with a convincing victory over Zebbug.

Kercem were without Mario Cutajar and Gothard Conti, both suspended, while Zebbug had to do without skipper Alex Tramboo and Silvan Galea.

The Rovers had an explosive start and were ahead after five minutes when Dragomir Draganov scored from a penalty.

But the Ajax soon recovered composure and turned the result in their favour with quick goals just before the break through Joseph Grech and Alfred Effiong.

Kercem were still the better side after the break and increased the score with a goal by Joseph Grech.

Substitute John Paul Mizzi made it 4-1 in the 87th minute.

Sannat promoted

Sannat Lions 2
Qala St Joseph 1

Sannat Lions registered a double over Qala and obtained the three points they needed to make sure of promotion and the title. Sannat were far from convincing but were strong enough to turn defeat into victory and maintain their un-beaten record after 12 matches.

Aloysius Ihbeulu put Qala ahead after 24 minutes and things looked bleak for the Lions when Pierre Said was red carded on the stroke of half-time for a professional foul.

Qala squandered various chances to wrap up the points and for this they paid dearly because Sannat scored twice through Mark Muscat and Mark Formosa to win the match against the odds.
