The British Colvill duo - Robin on piano and Kim as narrator - will present a programme of piano works that were highly popular at the turn of the 20th century at the Manoel Theatre on April 5 at 7.30 p.m.
While Robin Colvill will perform works by Bach, Rachmaninov, Cecile Chaminade, Lecuona, Liszt, Debussy, Sinding, Sibelius, Percy Grainger, Johann Strauss II and Richard Addinsell, Kim Colvill will recall the lives and times of the composers and their travels, through contemporary letters, newspapers reviews and poetry.
Their unique approach to the world of classical music and performance should provide a fair share of nostalgia.
Robin Colvill is a vastly experienced artist and one of the busiest and most versatile pianists performing in Britain today. He has worked with eminent musicians such as Jacqueline du Pre, Nigel Kennedy, Nicholas Daniel and Pinchas Zuckerman among others.
Kim Colvill skilfully blends her informative narrative with carefully selected musical pieces, using contemporary letters, newspaper reviews and poetry to illuminate her subjects.
Interest in the duo's programmes has led to extensive media coverage about their unique classical presentations.
One particularly successful project was the amazing re-enactment of the Liszt Grand Tours of 1840/1 when the Colvills performed in all the 73 different towns and cities in England, Ireland and Scotland that had played host to Liszt.
