The oozing hypocrisy of the Malta Labour Party knows no bounds. While all the hullabaloo is raging because the PN withdrew its candidates from Zejtun and Marsa, the same Labour Party strategists tried to pull a fast one, by claiming that non-voters in the EU referendum, for whatever reason, count as votes for their No to EU membership.
Was that a better or more equitable strategy than withdrawing candidates from Zejtun and Marsa, given the relative importance of the two issues? Do we not remember Dr Sant claiming victory, and irresponsibly bringing out people on the streets to celebrate a glaringly bogus victory, which could have easily gone disastrously out of hand?
I happen to be one whom the MLP tried to stop voting in the subsequent general election because I and other members of my family travelled to the UK for the wedding of our daughter in Kingston, Surrey.
For the record I am not just in favour of our EU membership, but also an executive member of the European Movement. Yet if Dr Sant could have his way, I would have counted as supporting his mistaken policies.
I ask your readers if they thinks that the MLP strategy to disenfranchise people, and to claim votes that were not cast, was more democratic than withdrawing candidates from local councils.
What is becoming painfully clear is that the PN machine is not working. Smugness, arrogance and incompetent cliques rule the roost. They cannot even defend themselves from the MLP machinations when the same MLP, have done much worse, as events as recent as two years ago are simply overlooked.
