Various outlets are selling DTTV digital set top boxes to be attached to television sets, designed to access digital terrestrial television.

The Consumers Association, in a press release, said that to make the right 'informed' choice, consumers ought to bear in mind that, by May 15 we should know who the respective operators involved are. Moreover, there are various types of attachments.

In this context consumers should be informed that there are three types of digital set top boxes:

1. Some of them can only access 'free to air' stations;

2. There are others that can only access stations tied to one specific operator - these cannot be used by other operators; and

3. There are others that are designed to access up to three different operators.

Obviously, it must be borne in mind that the price is based on the type of digital set top boxes and the respective brand. In any case, the Consumers Association advises consumers not to buy any digital set top boxes without first doing the necessary research and obtaining all the relevant information. Otherwise they might regret their decision.
