A policeman was put on guard at the Ta' Cenc area in Gozo yesterday following reports that hunters were using illegal methods to hunt for quails in the area.

Sources said the Gozo police went on site after being contacted by people and told that hunters were using a cassette to hunt for quail. The use of such equipment for hunting purposes is illegal. The police did not find any cassettes in use, the sources said.

It was decided that a policeman would be stationed in the area to ensure law and order.

The hunting season started yesterday and hunters are only allowed to shoot at quails and turtle doves.
