Air Malta is about to conclude the lease of another two Avro RJ 85 aircraft and has signed a letter of intent for the last remaining RJ 70, the company said yesterday.

With these agreements in place Air Malta said it will be entering into the final stages of its RJ aircraft redeployment project.

Earlier this year Air Malta had announced it had sold an Avro RJ 85 to the Bahrain Defence Force, leased two RJ 70 to ULL14, an Austrian airline, and leased another RJ 70 to Transwede Airways AB, a Swedish airline. Commenting on these agreements, Air Malta's chief operating officer Joe Cappello said: "This is excellent news for Air Malta. In these last months, after Air Malta repossessed the RJ aircraft, the airline has launched an aggressive marketing campaign in order to lease out the aircraft.

"Air Malta is now reaping the fruits of its work and negotiating lease agreements with various lessees. It is expected that this project will bring to Air Malta additional revenue and added cost savings".
