Environment Minister George Pullicino has urged hunter associations and hunters to cooperate with the government and the security forces to curb illegal hunting and to ensure the protection of protected birds.

The start of the hunting season on Friday and the enforcement of hunting and trapping regulations was the topic of a meeting on Monday presided over by Mr Pullicino and attended by Police Commissioner John Rizzo, AFM Commander Brigadier Carmel Vassallo and Ornis Committee chairman Joe Sultana.

The aim of the meeting was to coordinate law enforcement.

The government said it was working to ensure the hunting regulations are observed.
