Two employment boards still 'unconstituted'

The government should immediately appoint the members of the Employment and Training Corporation board and the Employment Relations Board according to law, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin said.

Union secretary general Gejtu Vella said the lack of members on both boards was obstructing the discussion of important issues within the respective boards and was also detrimental to the development of industrial relations.

Mr Vella said the timeframe to appoint members on both boards expired weeks ago and the union could not understand how the government had not been quick to appoint new members. He said that because of the lack of appointments pending work could not continue.

Moreover, the current economic and social situation made it more important for the board members to be appointed.

He said the Employment Relations Board was the one which discussed important issues related to industrial relations as well as amendments, laws and new directives.

The appointment of members on the ETC board was crucial in view of the 8,000 people registering for work, Mr Vella added.
